Where Engineering Insight Meets Energy Strategy
Paul Button has spent his entire 25+ year career as a reservoir engineer. He started with Marathon Oil Company, working Yates field in West Texas. During his time with Marathon Paul worked primarily on reservoir simulation of gravity drainage, thermal and chemical EOR processes. He did a short stint with Kinder Morgan CO2 after the sale of Yates. During this time he worked on CO2 flooding EOR and WAG pattern management. In 2005, he found his way back to Montana with a job working for Nance Petroleum, later SM Energy. Paul worked the early Bakken development as well as legacy water floods and EOR projects in North Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming. As the shale revolution continued, he worked on developing positions in both the DJ and Powder River basins with a focus on development spacing and frac design. When SM Energy shifted focus to Texas, Paul co-founded Poplar Resources and was crucial in designing and implementing a nitrogen flood to revitalize an aging field.
As the chief consulting engineer, Paul works with a network of trusted colleagues who can be engaged as subcontractors to support larger or more complex projects, providing added capacity and specialized expertise as needed.
